Challengers soaring in San Diego

Two new pilots make their debut in the Golden State

Daniel Genevey is set to debut in San Diego

As the Challengers fly into round two of the 2017 Red bull Air Race season we welcome two pilots who will be making their debut in the San Diego sunshine. Both Daniel Genevey and Kenny Chiang will fly in the racetrack for the first time.

Of the nine Challenger Class pilots, four others will be up against the two new guys. Here's how they line up:

Florian Bergér
Bergér was pipped to the top spot in Abu Dhabi by his friend, and rival, Daniel Ryfa. The current Challenger Champion will want to correct that and win here in San Diego. Bergér will be hoping for a podium finish at the very least.

Kenny Chiang
Chiang has been highly praised by insiders of the Red Bull Air Race even though he hasn't flown in the track. This will be Chiang's first opportunity to show what he can do amongst the pylons.

Kevin Coleman
Coleman has returned this year as one of the favourites to win, but it wasn't his day in Abu Dhabi and he'll be looking to make amends here this weekend, but will he suffer under the pressure of a home race?

Luke Czepiela
The Polish pilot went from strength to strength last season and, like Coleman, didn't get off to the best start in Abu Dhabi. He'll be keen to get in the track and make up for lost time. As one of the more experienced pilots he's in with a chance of a podium finish.

Daniel Genevey
Genevey is the other pilot to make his debut in the track this weekend. The vastly experienced Hungarian pilot will be looking to find his lines early in the Free Practice sessions and hope that he flies smoothly and cleanly.

Baptiste Vignes
Vignes was solid in Abu Dhabi and walked away full of confidence and new knowledge after his debut race. This will give him an advantage over the other two new pilots, so if he capitalises on his experience he could find himself collecting a lot of points this weekend.

Don't miss a moment of this weekend's racing in San Diego, you can see it all HERE.
