Reactions: Master Class in Abu Dhabi

Training over, tomorrow it's Qualifying

With a complete about-turn in weather, the pilots had to contend with high temperatures in the racetrack today. With one Free Practice left before Qualifying, this is how the pilots feel...

Matt Hall
"I feel fit and healthy and we're back to where we were last year. We know we're on a winning formula so we don't have to change anything yet. It's too hard to predict the World Championship this early."

Hannes Arch
"It feels good out there. We had a lack of training, which doesn't help and could cause problems. The pilot that can deal with these problems in a relaxed way will perform better in the racetrack."

Martin Sonka
"It was strange flying today. We had an over-G in the first session and had to be careful not to do it again. We're still having problems with the engine cooling, so we're working on the raceplane now, but we will need some modifications for the next race."

Matthias Dolderer
"We are going in the right direction but we still need to make some minor adjustments. It's a cool track and I hope the weather stays like it was today. We have good speed in the raceplane and my aim is to fly without penalties."

Yoshihide Muroya
"We're aiming to be World Champion, but we are still a working progress. We're not 100% ready here, but I feel we're still going to have a good race in Abu Dhabi."

Nigel Lamb
"Today is what we are aiming for. It's been tough to get in the mindset because of the disruptions. We're really focused on winning this year. I don't like the position of Gate 3; I think a lot of the pilots will have difficulty getting the turn right."

Pete McLeod
"The track has a couple of points that are interesting, I'm not sure it's going to be my favourite track of the year, but the back half has a tight sequence. The turn at Gate 3 will play a factor, there are not that many options and it will catch a few guys out."

Nicolas Ivanoff
"I'm still trying different angles on the track, but I've not found the right line yet. I need to keeping trying. The raceplane is great, I'm getting better and better the more time I have with it."

Michael Goulian
"The first run today was exploratory as I was trying to find the correct line. The later runs were a vast improvement. It's nice in the track. I'm happy with my raceplane and my times."

Kirby Chambliss
"I feel good, we're not quite where we need to be, but overall I'm happy with the raceplane and with my conditioning. We've got a few changes on our team that I think will benefit us and I hope my flying will improve with these changes."

Juan Velarde
"It was good out there today, but it wasn't easy. We have improved so much since the last race, but we still have a lot to do. I will have to work on the turns at Gate 3 and after Gate 6, so I will sit down tonight and analyse those two parts of the track."

François Le Vot
"I can't wait to get back in the track. My team is working well. I have known my tactician François Hanne and my aerobatic coach Patrick Paris for many years and I'm glad they are with me. The raceplane still needs some modifications, the ailerons are too heavy and it's like a workout every time I go into the track, but I was so happy to be out there today."

Peter Podlunsek
"The first flight was really tough. The raceplanes are so much faster, but I felt comfortable by the second and third flight. The track is very demanding – you have to be fast and precise, but you really need experience to fly it fast."

Petr Kopfstein
"It was a new experience today. Every flight I'm feeling better and better. The raceplane is perfect – we just need to get used to each other, and that will happen with the more time I get in the track."
