Pilot quotes

Daniel Genevey is a commercial airline pilot, a mechanical engineer and a member of the Hungarian Aerobatic Team who has competed at the European and World levels.

While Genevey and his family are based in Budapest, the pilot is truly a man of the world. He grew up in Guadeloupe and started aerobatics with model aeroplanes. He then moved to France for his engineering degree, and to the USA, earning a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Tech university. As a mechanical engineer, he collaborated on rocket engines for use by the European Space Agency. Concurrently, he acquired his commercial pilot's licence and joined Air France, where he is a first officer.

Having begun his aerobatic training almost as soon as he got his pilot's licence, Genevey won the French National Advanced Aerobatics Championship in 2011. He subsequently chose to compete under the flag of his new home country, Hungary, where he had been conducting all of his aerobatics training.

On the Hungarian Aerobatic Team, he contends at the highest level, Unlimited, and he ranked among the top 10 European pilots in only his second year in the category. Across his aviation pursuits, he has flown more than 5,500 hours, but racing in the Challenger Class will be a new experience.

"I am well aware of how demanding this new dimension of flying can be," says Genevey. "Now is the best time for me to make the further step I have always dreamt of: getting involved in the Red Bull Air Race and discovering another world of performance and competition. This will definitely be the biggest challenge of my career as a pilot."
