Vignes and Bergér top early Challenger sessions

Bergér in the track

In testing conditions, Baptiste Vignes and Florian Bergér came out on top in the first flying sessions for the 2018 Budapest Challenger Cup.

Bergér set the fastest time of the day in Free Practice 2, posting a 1:03.244, more than half a second faster than his closest rival, Melanie Astles.

Free Practice 2 had seen the conditions worsen and it became turbulent in the track, but the Challengers coped well, with four of the pilots improving their times on the earlier session.

Third in FP2 was Baptiste Vignes, who is returning to the skies after his second place in Cannes. Kenny Chiang, racing for the first time since Porto last year, was in fourth in the later session and Daniel Genevey in fifth. Luke Czepiela finished in sixth after collecting two seconds of penalties.

In the earlier session Vignes topped the timesheet for the first time in his Red Bull Air Race career. His time of 1:03.898 was more than a second faster than his closest rival, Chiang. Chiang posted 1:05.229 and current Challenger Cup Champion, Florian Bergér was third.

Luke Czepiela was fourth on the timesheet with Daniel Genevey in fifth and Melanie Astles picked up nine seconds of penalties in her run, which saw her bottom of FP1.

Tomorrow the Challengers have one more Free Practice session before Qualifying, follow all the action HERE.
