Melanie Astles set the fastest time in the final session before Qualifying with a blistering 1:05.924 showing no signs of being behind the curve after five months since her last race.
After watching three pilots fly, she knew what she had to do. Kenny Chiang had set the fastest time of the day up until that point but Astles bettered it by 0.193s knocking the new Challenger into second place.
Luke Czepiela, Daniel Ryfa and Kevin Coleman, all pilots with the lot more experience in the track than Chiang, were unable to beat the Chinese pilot and had to settle for third, fourth and fifth respectively. Coleman was 0.772s slower than leader Astles and he'll be disappointed after setting exceptionally quick times in yesterday's sessions.
Ben Murphy, another pilot who hasn't raced for five months, was a little off the pace this morning finishing sixth and 1.443s behind Astles. New pilots Baptiste Vignes and Daniel Genevey, who are still learning the intricacies of the motorsport were at the bottom of the timesheet.
The Challenger Class pilots will have Qualifying later today and then the rescheduled Chiba race. You can follow the action HERE!
