McLeod is magic in Budapest Qualifying

The Canadian takes Qualifying on Canada day

McLeod in the track

On the same day that Canada celebrates its 150th birthday, Pete McLeod is celebrating as he was the fastest pilot in Qualifying and the first pilot to break the one minute mark here in Budapest.

McLeod stopped the race clock in 59.508s to take top spot on the Qualifying timesheet, for the second race in a row, and will be the man to beat tomorrow. Yoshihide Muroya was closest to McLeod finishing 0.442s behind the Canadian. He was the only other pilot to beat the minute mark today.

Petr Kopfstein has continued in the form he left Chiba with by finishing third on the timesheet, and was more than a second slower than the top two. It has given him a great stead for tomorrow's race.

Martin Sonka, who had been topping the timesheets, was given a DNF in his first run for exceeding the G-limit. He had to rein it in for his second run, finishing with a time of 1:01.345, which was enough to see him fourth.

Matt Hall was pleased with his fifth place finish in Qualifying and believes he still can get more from his new Edge 540 V3. His time of 1:01.435 will see him fly against Mikael Brageot, who finished the session in tenth.

François Le Vot has found form in his new raceplane. He finished in eighth, the highest French pilot on the timesheet.

Peter Podlunsek pulled a muscle in his arm in the Free Practice session and despite having his arm strapped up and a lack of feeling, he still managed to set a time. He is hoping his injury will be better by Kazan, but believes his run tomorrow will be hindered by his arm.

Matthias Dolderer piled more misery on himself after exceeding the G-limit in the track and collecting a DNF. He broke the 12G limit so had to return to the airport for a G-inspection and wasn't able to complete his second run. The World Champion will have it all to do tomorrow if he wants to stay in the running for the World Championship title. Juan Velarde was also guilty of the same mistake and it put him bottom of the Qualifying timesheet.
