A leaner, fitter Pete McLeod looked in top form as he flew through the Abu Dhabi track in Free Practice 3. His time of 53.076s was unbeatable in the UAE's heat this afternoon.
It was a close session though, Michael Goulian, who has been in spectacular form so far was just 0.004s slower than the Canadian. Matt Hall was third and current champion Yoshihide Muroya was fourth – all four were separated by just over half a second.
2017's World Championship runner up Martin Sonka was in sixth, just below Kirby Chambliss, after finishing 1.114s off the pace, just behind Sonka was fellow countryman Petr Kopfstein.
New Master Class pilot Ben Murphy found himself in ninth after two clean runs, with a fastest time of 54.920s – his plan is to keep flying cleanly and the results will take care of themselves. Murphy was just behind Juan Velarde and in front of Cristian Bolton.
Nicolas Ivanoff battled hard in his run, but flying a plane he's not familiar with saw him set a time of 57.188s which placed him in 13th. Bottom of the timesheet was Matthias Dolderer. Dolderer was one of yesterday's best performers, although today he was too strong on his control stick and exceeded maximum-G in the track. He peaked over 12G, was given a DNF and had to return to the race airport for a G-inspection. He'll need to erase that before Qualifying.
