The wait is over, it's time for the race to begin. Here's how the Master Class pilots line up for the first round of Race Day...
Yoshihide Muroya vs Pete McLeod
This is the heat the Red Bull Air Race insiders can't predict. It could go either way, Muroya has been fast in some sessions, but struggled to find his line in others. McLeod has been consistent throughout and just needs to keep a calm head. The runner up in this heat could go through as the fastest loser.
Peter Podlunsek vs Matt Hall
Podlunsek has struggled to fly penalty free here in San Diego, but is confident he has a good run in him. Hall has been learning the character of his new raceplane. He has been getting faster and faster throughout Free Practice and Qualifying, so this could be an exciting head-to-head.
François Le Vot vs Kirby Chambliss
Le Vot has been improving in the track all the time. He is also having fun amongst the pylons, but he has strong opposition in Kirby Chambliss. Chambliss would love to get on the podium in front of his home fans. He's been working hard and Paulo Iscold will be showing him the best lines.
Nicolas Ivanoff vs Martin Sonka
Ivanoff will have it all to do today if he is to get ahead of Martin Sonka. He was disappointed with his Qualifying performance, but has vowed to improve. Sonka has been flying exactly the same way he flew in Abu Dhabi. He's bristling with confidence and will be disappointed if he doesn't get to the Final 4.
Petr Kopfstein vs Juan Velarde
This will be a close heat. Kopfstein has been flying consistently well and improving with every run. He had an engine issue early in the week, but it was sorted quickly and he is back to full strength. Velarde has been flying well but not as fast as he would've liked, he tried new winglets in Free Practice but has removed them for Race Day.
Cristian Bolton vs Michael Goulian
Michael Goulian stormed through Qualifying yesterday setting the second quickest time. He looks on fine form and would love to be the first American to win a race since he won in Budapest in 2009. Master Class new pilot, Cristian Bolton is a fiercely competitive pilot, but Goulian might just have the edge over him.
Mikael Brageot vs Matthias Dolderer
Brageot was unable to set a Qualifying time yesterday and will find himself up against the World Champion. It's a tough ask for him to win, but the steely Frenchman is strong in his Skyracer. Dolderer has not been strong here in San Diego, but his run in Qualifying was spectacular and he looks to have recaptured the form that won him the title in 2016.
