Wiener Neustadt 2018: Challenger Class Race 2 reactions

The Challengers offer their thoughts on the second race of their weekend

Chiang and Vignes celebrate together

The Challengers had a busy weekend with some of them racing twice. Here's what they thought of Race 2 in the Wiener Neustadt double-header...

1st Kenny Chiang
"Flying consistently and clean was always the aim, and although I left a little bit of time out there on the track, overall I'm happy with a penalty-free run. Before this weekend, I wasn't sure whether I would be in the season finale, but hopefully these two wins should guarantee a seat in that final race. My parents came to Wiener Neustadt, and yesterday was the first time they heard the Chinese national anthem in person, which was really special. I'm just surprised I could do it again today!"

2nd Luke Czepiela
"I was hoping for a much better run. I started playing with the engine just a little bit before the Start Gate and I almost missed it and then I was concerned with that, then the flight was a bit messy. I could have done a lot better and beaten Kenny. Second place is good for the points, but personally it doesn't feel great, I'll do better next time in Dallas."

3rd Baptiste Vignes
"Very satisfied today because it was my fastest time of the week so far, so compared to yesterday I am very happy because I didn't make any mistakes and of course I am happy because I'm on the podium again – it's been a good week. I will congratulate Kenny and Luke and now it's time to think of Indy and hope for something good."

4th Melanie Astles
"I think my flying was great, I'm really happy about it. The other guys were a bit faster, but the engine is a bit hot when you fly second. The other pilots didn't pick up penalties like they did yesterday."

5th Dario Costa
"The whole week I've had a little bit of an issue setting up the raceplane. It was quite difficult, and the Challenger I'm sharing the plane with also struggled. We were always last in the sessions and today we finished as the last two, but I improved my time by two seconds today, which means I'm doing my best on Race Day and giving my all, which is very satisfying. But I'm a little disappointed as Austria is almost a home race for me and I wanted to give a little bit more."

6th Daniel Ryfa
"I've been enjoying the flying and the training, but right now I'm super pissed with the result in the race, I'm just really angry. This was my last race so I will have to wait and see if I've got enough points to race in Fort Worth."
