Chiba Update: Weather causes Qualifying cancellation

High seas and rough conditions put a halt to Saturday's schedule

Fans braved the windy conditions

Due to the high seas and rough conditions at the Red Bull Air Race in Chiba, Japan on Saturday, the Race Committee has been forced to cancel the Qualifying session of the Master Class and Challenger Class.

The water racetrack is no longer safely operational, with up to 2.5m waves forcing the immediate end to all rescue and track operations.

"The current water conditions give us no choice but to cancel the Qualifying flying sessions for Saturday," explained Race Director Jim DiMatteo. "Safety on the racetrack and for the teams is our utmost priority, along with the operations of our water racetrack."

Public and hospitality areas will close at 1700 local time and Race Day and Weekend tickets remain valid for Sunday 05 June 2016.
