Hall leads the pack after training

Matt Hall is in Ascot for his first win

Matt Hall topped the timesheets in the first and only training session on Saturday in Ascot ahead of Qualifying for the Red Bull Air Race World Championship stop, the fifth race in the eight-leg 2015 season of the world's fastest motorsport series.

He stopped the clock in a time of 1:07.721, which was 0.177 second ahead of Austria's Hannes Arch. American Michael Goulian was 0.335 second behind despite incurring a 2-second penalty.

Britain's Paul Bonhomme, who leads the overall championship with 34 points to 29 points for Arch and Hall, had the fourth fastest time in training, hurt by a 2-second penalty in the only training session with a time of 1:08.970, or 1.249 seconds behind Hall.

"There are some things that we can still do faster," said Hall. "My run wasn't as smooth as I'd like it to be. But it was still pretty good. Overall I was pretty happy with the line I was on and flew the way I planned to. It was pretty much what I expected."
