The Round of 8 was full of thrills at the EuroSpeedway. Matt Hall beat Hannes Arch by just two thousandths of a second, the closest result this season. Here's what happened heat by heat...
McLeod vs Chambliss
The Canadian was out on the track first, but it didn't daunt him. McLeod laid down a time of 55.496s for Chambliss to beat. Chambliss was 0.345s ahead at the first split, but then clipped a pylon at Gate 6, which gave him a total time of 58.458s, which would've put him through without the pylon hit.
Sonka vs Goulian
Martin Sonka flew a 53.871s in his Round of 8 – close to the track record. It was his first clean run of the day and it added pressure Goulian who would need a personal best to beat Sonka's time. He was 0.624s behind after the first lap and he just couldn't catch that time back up and finished 1.257s behind the Czech pilot.
Arch vs Hall
Hannes Arch was another pilot who flew his personal best in the Round of 8 with a time of 54.452s. Hall would've heard the time over the radio before entering the track and it would've spurred him on. Hall flew the run of his career and beat Arch by just 0.002s, the closest finish this year.
Ivanoff vs Dolderer
Nicolas Ivanoff flew a clean run of 55.130s, his fastest time of the week. Local hero Matthias Dolderer had to follow and pulled out all the stops to beat the Frenchman. Dolderer was faster at the first split time and then red at the second spilt. He then maintained his speed and managed to turn the light green again and put himself into the Final 4.
