Coleman crushes Kazan Free Practice

The American shows his true grit in the first day

The Challengers in the track

Kevin Coleman topped both of today's Free Practice sessions in Kazan with impressive times. Coleman started the day strong with a time of 1:05.835. The only pilot to get below 1:06.000 and more than 1.5s ahead of Daniel Ryfa in second place. It was an early marker that proved he couldn't wait to get back in the track.

Coleman then followed up his impressive opening session with a 1:05.435 in Free Practice 2, but his closest rival, Ryfa, closed the gap on the American and finished just 0.217s slower than Coleman.

New pilot Kenny Chiang put in two impressive performances, finishing fourth in FP1 and third in the later session, shaving 1.202s off his time.

Melanie Astles and Ben Murphy showed no signs of rust, considering neither of them had raced since the season opener in Abu Dhabi - five months ago. Astles was fourth in FP2, 2.138s behind Coleman, but aside from one mistake her runs were penalty free. Murphy finished third in the opening session and fifth in FP2, he'll be testing out different lines to see where he can catch his rivals.

Polish pilot Luke Czepiela was sixth on both timesheets and some of his run times were fast, but penalties cost him and saw him slip positions.

New pilots Baptiste Vignes and Daniel Genevey were seventh and eighth respectively, they will be running their racing lines through their heads to try and keep up with the other pilots.

The Challengers will be Qualifying tomorrow and then competing in the rescheduled Chiba race, follow all the action HERE
