Coleman: feels good to be back on top

Kevin Coleman collects his first win for more than a year

Coleman wins!

Challenger Class pilot, Kevin Coleman found his mojo in Porto and claimed his first race win since August last year. The American pilot has been frustrated by his performances this season and picking up this win has come at the best time before the race at the Lausitzring.

Coleman won't race in Laustiz, so it'll be a nervous wait for him to see if he has done enough to claim his seat at the season finale in Indianapolis. He is currently second place in the standings, mainly thanks to his performance in Porto and will be hoping he has done enough.

"It feels good to win again," said Coleman. "I haven't won since Ascot last year, so it feels good to be back on top. Porto was awesome, and to win here has been a dream come true. "

Coleman didn't have it all his own way in Porto, and the 27-year-old knew it was going to be a tough race before he even arrived in Portugal. "It's not like any other track we've flown in. You're below the crowd, it's amazing. When I looked at the track I thought it wouldn't suit my style, but I learned to adapt," explained Coleman. "The overall weekend was kind of up and down for me. I started out pretty fast, right behind Florian [Bergér] – but that's how it goes – we're always chasing him," he added.

"I made progress, then I made some changes and seemed to get worse. The wind conditions were kind of crazy, they changed 180-degrees, which completely changed the track for Qualifying," said Coleman. "I made a mistake because of that in Qualifying, which actually worked in my favour for Race Day. I got to fly first on Race Day and the wind was lower, which helped." He concluded.

Coleman explained why winning in Porto was a dream come true. "Last time the Red Bull Air Race was in Porto I was watching it on TV and I was a lot younger. Now, I get to hang out with these guys and get to call them my friends."
