Red Bull Air Race pilot: 2003-2010
Spain's Alejandro Maclean competed in the first eight seasons of the Red Bull Air Race. A key figure in the evolution of the championship and the growth of aviation in general, he helped to accelerate the development of the MXS-R raceplane. A career highlight was taking second place at the 2007 stop in Rio de Janeiro in front of over half a million spectators. In aerobatics, "The Flying Matador" was captain of the Spanish national team and earned the European Unlimited Championship, two Spanish national titles, and the Lithuanian Open Championship. He was also a television film producer. Maclean died in Casarrubios, Spain in 2010 when his plane crashed during aerobatic training for an air show.
