Red Bull Air Race pilot: 2004-2007
In 2004, Frank Versteegh became the first Dutch pilot to fly in the Red Bull Air Race, and he made his mark in the sport across four seasons through 2007, earning a career-best overall ranking of sixth. Born in Oosterbeek, Netherlands in 1954, Versteegh has been awarded numerous aerobatics honors including the Italian Freestyle Championship and the Open Dutch National Unlimited Championship. As a spectacular air show pilot, he's perhaps best known for landing on a 70-meter barge on the Rhine in front of 50,000 spectators. A specialist in risk management and safety, Versteegh delivers keynote speeches on the topic and trains airline pilots in upset recovery. He is also a writer, television commentator, photographer and nature conservationist.
