Red Bull Air Race pilot: 2004-2009 
Mike Mangold of the USA joined the Red Bull Air Race in 2004 and was one of its dominant forces across six seasons, earning the first World Championship ever awarded in 2005 and another two years later. He continued to be closely involved in the sport as a commentator and as a pilot coach for the Challenger Cup. A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Mangold was a member of the US Parachute Team for more than five years, and he served in the United States Air Force, where he was named outstanding graduate of his "Top Gun" class. He also worked for two commercial airlines, flying a variety of jetliners. Known as "a pilot's pilot," Mangold won Gold, Silver and Bronze at the US National Aerobatic Championships, as well as five California Unlimited Aerobatic titles, and he was a member of the US Unlimited Aerobatic team. Mangold perished in the crash of a small jet at Apple Valley, USA in 2015.
