Red Bull Air Race pilot: 2003-2015
Hungary's Peter Besenyei is an aviation legend who was instrumental in founding and creating the Red Bull Air Race. Among his innumerable contributions to the concept, Besenyei was test pilot for proving the Air Gate technology and developed a custom raceplane. His fans cherish his 10 seasons of competition, with eight race wins and over 20 race podiums, plus five overall podiums – including the 2003 title. In aerobatics, Besenyei is a 10-time Hungarian Champion, a World and European Champion and a World Cup winner. He has served as an aerobatic flight instructor as well as a test pilot for the Aviation Office in Hungary. A national sporting hero, Besenyei is in demand as an air show pilot and for his inspirational appearances at schools, universities and events. The Fédération Aéronautique Internationale has announced that Besenyei will be honored with its Léon Biancotto award, the highest recognition in aerobatics.
