Red Bull Air Race pilot: 2003-2008

Steve Jones helped to shape the Red Bull Air Race as a dynamic competitor from 2003 to 2008, earning multiple podiums including two race wins and, in 2004, third place overall. The British pilot continues to be a lynchpin for the sport in the alternating positions of Race Director and Head Judge for both the Red Bull Air Race World Championship and the Challenger Cup.
A native of Hereford, Jones is a former British Aerobatic Champion, among many aerobatic honors, whose background includes early work as an air-taxi pilot, a flying instructor and an executive jet pilot. Today Jones is a senior captain piloting 747s for British Airways, and he is one half of the award-winning Matadors Aerobatic Team, flying as the wingman to three-time Red Bull Air Race World Champion Paul Bonhomme. Jones also displays vintage aircraft, and he is a director and test pilot for a project to produce a raceplane with pure electric propulsion.
