The race started off making history as the Red Bull Air Race landed at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the first time
And it wasn't long before the newly certified airfield had been taken over by the Air Race
Pilots kept to the traditions, starting with a 'class photo' at the famous Yard of Bricks
This was the start of the action, as pilots took to the brand new track and flew into the unknown
But in true 2016 style, the rain appeared to keep the pilots on their toes
However, that didn't stop the action and Dolderer was as strong as ever in the Round of 14
But all eyes were on Cristian Bolton, who was flying in the Master Class for the very first time
The Challengers put on a good race, with Czepiela taking his first race win and Astles taking her first podium
Hall still wasn't on top form after suffering from illness during Qualifying
And Muroya who had achieved the DHL fastest lap in Qualifying was pushed out by Dolderer the Dominator
The duel between Hall and Dolderer was still there and the pressure was on
But Dolderer just couldn't be beaten and not only won the race...
He became the 2016 World Champion!
Like no other, the penultimate race in Indianapolis has been as exciting as they come, with thrills and spills galore. The pilots flew a brand new track, which suited some more than others. There were times that it looked like the pressure might be too much for Dolderer. But in the end, it spurred him on and gave him the motivation to not only win the race, but to become the 2016 World Champion!
