Bergér is back and tops FP timesheet in Indianapolis

In his first appearance since Budapest, Germany's Florian Bergér came flying out of the blocks and topped the timesheet, stopping the clock at 1:10.529. Dario Costa and Daniel Genevey of Hungary were second and third on the timesheet.

The Challengers only flew one extended session today as low clouds and inclement weather forced the Race Committee to cancel Free Practice 1 in the morning. However, when blue skies broke through in the afternoon, the Challenger Class pilots were eager to get airborne, and for many, including Costa and Genevey, it was their first time flying at the home of the world-renowned Indianapolis 500.

Costa flew first, producing a time of 1:11.129 in the unfamiliar racetrack, followed by Bergér, whose experience includes clinching his second Challenger Cup title when he came in fourth at Indy in 2017. Although the German had not raced since June, he managed a crisp, penalty-free time that even Genevey, the only other contender to achieve a penalty-free run, couldn't top.

Patrick Davidson was fourth on the timesheet; just 0.775s behind Bergér. Kevin Coleman was fifth with Baptiste Vignes and Kenny Chiang, both flying in Indy for the first time, were sixth and seventh respectively.

Tomorrow the Challengers will have their final Free Practice session before the afternoon's Qualifying followed by the race on Sunday. You can catch all the action HERE.
