Ice Cool Bergér beats Chiba heat in FP

The two-time champion sets the fastest time of the day in Free Practice session

Florian Bergér battled through 30 degree heat to top the timing sheets in both Free Practice 1 and 2.

The German pilot set a net time of 59.885s in FP1 – the only pilot to break the one minute mark – but a one second penalty for crossing the track limit line saw his time pushed to 1:00.885. He was, however, able to shave 0.139s off that time in FP2.

Baptiste Vignes came closest to topping Bergér in FP2. He posted a 1:00.767, but crossed the Finish Gate just 0.021s behind his rival. Vito Wyprächtiger was third in the latter session, setting a time of 1:02.003, 1.257s off the lead, but a great start to race week for the Swiss pilot in only his third outing.

Kenny Chiang was fourth, 1.648s off the lead, but his time included a one second penalty for crossing the track limit line. Behind him was Kevin Coleman, who had three seconds' worth of penalties added to his time, and sixth was Luke Czepiela.

Coleman had a much better result in FP1 – second with a time of 1:01.140, just 0.255s behind Bergér. Vignes found himself in third, with Czepiela in fourth, Chiang in fifth, and Wyprächtiger bottom of the timesheet with four seconds' worth of penalties.

The Challengers have one more Free Practice session tomorrow, ahead of the Qualifying session in the afternoon. Catch all the action right here.
